Welcome to Richmond Area AYSO Region 448
We’re proud to offer a fun, inclusive, and development-focused youth soccer program for the Richmond area. Whether you're brand new to soccer or returning for another season, here’s what to expect.
What is AYSO?
AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) is a nationwide, volunteer-run youth soccer program. We are built on Six Core Philosophies:
-
Everyone Plays® – Every player is guaranteed to play at least half of every game.
-
Balanced Teams – Teams are formed each season to create fair and competitive games.
-
Open Registration – Any child who wants to play is welcome.
-
Positive Coaching – We train coaches to encourage and build confidence.
-
Good Sportsmanship – We emphasize respect and teamwork on and off the field.
-
Player Development – Kids grow as athletes and individuals in our program.
Season Structure
Registration covers both the Fall and Spring seasons.
Each season includes 10 games, with the potential for a tournament at the end of both.
Important:
We register players for the full season only. If your child cannot participate in either fall or spring, you must still register for the full season to hold a spot on a team. If you know in advance that your player will only participate in one part of the season, please email the region at [email protected] so we can make a note for team planning.
Coaches & Volunteers
AYSO is entirely volunteer-run, and each division requires multiple coaches. Team formation depends on having enough volunteers.
-
Each team must have one head coach and one assistant coach
-
All coaches must complete a background check and AYSO training (provided by the region)
-
If we do not have enough coaches in a division, we may not be able to form teams
Coaches are selected from the pool of families with players in that division. If you are registering your child, please consider volunteering as a coach.
For 10U and above, each team is also required to provide a sideline referee. This is a simple, supportive role, and we will train volunteers.
